Ombre is where all the ends are going to be affected and the transition from the deeper roots and light ends is going to be pretty short. The definition for Ombre is the French word for "color that is shaded or graduated in tone". This hair color technique involves two hues blended together with little to no highlights at the root. While ombré is known for its fade from dark roots to light ends, it’s usually not so much a fade as it is a harsh line of color differentiation between the darker and lighter shades.
Balayage is a technique for highlighting hair in which the dye is painted on in such a way as to create a graduated, natural-looking effect. The word Balayage originates from the French term “to sweep.” With Balayage, not necessarily all the ends will be affected and the transition between dark and light will be much longer and more natural looking.
Babylights are delicate highlights created using a very fine hair color technique to mimic the subtle, dimensional hair color seen on children's hair. ... For babylights, you use just a little bit of hair and create small separations between foils so the highlights blend with the base color.
Foilyage is a painting technique done in foils that will mimic the look of balayage. When heat from the foils is involved, the hair can lift lighter than being painted on in open air processing.
Teasylights gets the most lift while still mimicking the look of balayage. Also using foil for heat, the hair is teased up for soft diffusion and wrapped. Just remember to be patient for the brush out process after shampooing.
Shadow root lies in the same dark roots and lighter ends, but without a sharp contrast between them.
Color melting is typically made up of two to three colors, this coloring technique is the offspring of ombré and sombré (a.k.a. soft ombré). Color melting blends all highlights with the base color for a “melted” effect where you can’t tell where one color starts and the other ends.
Fluid Hair Painting is a technique is similar to the painting method of balayage, only in this case, it involves reclining the client's chair so their head can lean on a table, then coloring the hair. Because their hair is fanned out, it gives your stylist the ability to thoroughly look over every strand to see how the color melts from top to bottom.
Rainbow Hair/ AKA Mermaid Hair is one of the most vivid and exciting hair trends to have happened in recent years. Deep blues, striking greens and vibrant purples will make your hair feel as if the waves of the ocean are flowing right through it! Oil Slick Hair is a technique that allows brunettes to rock rainbow hair, the look incorporates inky iridescent tones of purples, blues and greens, and was inspired by gasoline-laced puddles on a rainy day.
